About this deal

Agreed GREY non formulary for NEW PATIENTS (APC Jan 2020). Other creams available as soap substitutes and leave on emollients. First choice - Dermol ® 500 Lotion (less greasy than Dermol ® cream). Recommended for aditional use as soap substitute. Only for patients unable to use ointment/creams/lotions, or where application without touching skin is required, as per Notts Emollient Formulary.

Use in confirmed staphylococcal infection e.g. recurrent folliculitis and impetiginised eczema as per Notts Emollient Formulary. Uses: Adults, the elderly and children*: As an emollient: Apply to the affected area as often as required. Smooth gently into the skin, following the direction of the hair growth. As a bath additive: Melt about 4g in hot water in a suitable container then add to the bath. As a soap substitute: Take a small amount of the ointment and lather it under warm water and use as required when washing or in the shower. Pat skin dryAt SFH if needed for other uses eg for lips, then use yellow soft paraffin, available from NHS supplies. AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, a light, paraffin-free emollient which has all the benefits of colloidal oat including protecting and restoring the skin barrier, soothing the itch, irritation and redness associated with dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, as well as having humectant properties and maintaining the skin’s normal pH. As well as being a moisturiser it can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further.

Storing the medicine AproDerm Emollient Cream is slightly richer than AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, however, is still light and easily absorbed, whilst being cooling and moisturising. It can also be used as an effective soap substitute, to prevent the skin from drying out further.AproDerm Gel is a highly moisturising gel, without the greasiness of an ointment, which actively draws and retains moisture within the skin and provides a protective barrier to help reduce dryness and irritation. It is also an effective pre-bathing emollient so can be applied to skin prior to bathing to prevent it from drying out even further, whilst protecting it from the irritant effects that can be caused by washing and bathing products such as soaps, shower gels and shampoos. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is unlikely to have any ill effects when used as directed. If unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Aqueous cream may be associated with skin reactions (stinging, burning, itching and redness) when used as a 'leave-on' emollient, often within 20 minutes of application, and especially in children with atopic eczema. Paraffin-free emollients should be reserved for patients who are intolerant/unsuitable for paraffin containing emollients due to increased fire hazard risks despite appropriate counselling. Epimax ®ointment - First line option for severe dry skin as per Notts Emollient Formulary. Comparable to Hydromol ®, Zeroderm ®,Cetraben ®, and Epaderm ®.
