The main biologically active componentsin Witch Hazel are hamamelitannin (a potent astringent and antioxidant), catechins (anti-inflammatory and antioxidant) and gallic acid (antibacterial). The bark extract contains by far the most hamamelitanninand it has the most gallic acid and catechins. The twigs contain fewer catechins, less gallic acid, and much less hamamelitannin(4.77% vs 0.18%). The leaves contain hardly any tannins (0.04%) or catechins and contain amedium amount of gallic acid (compared to the bark and twigs). Witch Hazelalso contains tiny amounts of the essential oil and fragrance component eugenol, but the amount is so small that it's probably not significant for the skin. It keeps skin hydrated by sealing in moisture, preventing evaporation of skin moisture, and maintaining the healthy balance of oil and water. Ceramide NP is a mild ingredient that does not cause skin irritation due to its structure similar to skin lipid.

What is Purito?

In addition, the cream contains Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, and Ceramide, which help strengthen the skin barrier preventing the evaporation of moisture inside the skin. Especially Ceramide NP is a mild ingredient that does not cause skin irritation due to its structure similar to skin lipid. It strengthens the skin barrier and fends off external stimuli. It also keeps skin hydrated by sealing in moisture, preventing evaporation of skin moisture, and maintaining the healthy balance of oil and water. Moreover, Squalane prevents the evaporation of moisture from the skin and soothes its texture. This serum also has a bunch of anti-aging peptides (palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 (pal-KTTKS), palmitoyl tripeptide-1 (pal-GHK), palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 (part of Matrixyl 3000) and palmitoyl dipeptide-10). Additionally, there’s adenosine, an anti-inflammatory ingredient that may increase collagen and decrease wrinkles, and panthenol for soothing skin, and niacinamide (vitamin B3) as well, which has a host of fantastic skin benefits (restoring the skin barrier, reducing hyperpigmentation, helping with acne and evening out skin tone). To help more with barrier repair there’s ceramide NP, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that’s lowered in dry skin. There’s also a healthy dose of humectants as well, including glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and some glycols. What makes Purito Special?

I used this and the Centella Unscented Serum to calm my skin after over-exfoliating and it worked a treat, my skin loves them both. I use the serum in my AM routine and the cream as the last step of my PM routine and my skin wakes up happy and moisturised. Madecassoside can also help in burn wound healing through increasing antioxidant activity and enhancing collagen synthesis.
