About this deal

It is surprising how well it works and how it effectively connects to the final moments of the issue, where the action and violence ramp up again, to gruesome results.

Though the comic can't be the same as the movie, which I loved watching, it was missing a key piece. KICK-ASS IS BACK—ready to wipe out the city's criminal lowlives, destroy its gangs, and save its communities from decay. In addition, Millar has reunited with Civil War artist Steve McNiven in both the pages of Wolverine and their creator-owned book Nemesis. What it lacks in heart, energy, laughs, tone, pacing, and pretty much everything else, it makes up for with Jim Carrey. The original “Kick-Ass” volumes (and its parallel series, “Hit-Girl”) have always been about ordinary people entering the fray of extreme violence, for reasons that are far more linked to real-world scenarios and themes rather than impossible, supernatural justifications.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Patience grow throughout her journey as Kick-Ass, and seeing where her new life will take her. Like its predecessors, Kick-Ass prioritizes shock value, extreme violence and pop culture references over nuanced characterization. Even though it took quite a license with military reality, its the devil is in the details approach to storytelling is still worth it. The storytelling is strong and you'll want to learn more about Patience and her plight at the end of this issue.

Overall the new Kick-Ass is a mixed bag, a fumbled attempt at producing the kind of comic the industry needs with some really nice looking art. So, while I dont know if I would recommend it, I predict that it will cause much hand-wringing (and high sales). For all that the book aims to show us ordinary people playing at being superheroes, the violence is often stylized and exaggerated to the point where any sense of reality is washed away. is on top form as per usual with some phenomenal action sequences, whether that’s the flashback to Patience and her unit in Afghanistan or Patience as Kick-Ass taking down the local crime mob – it’s like you can feel all of the punches and kicks!

This is a strong first issue, which turns everything you think you know about Kick-Ass on its head and presents a less comedic version of the character who has real issues balancing life with the job of a vigilante. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Lately, I've noticed he seems to reserve his more meticulous, focused and deliberate work for creator-owned projects such as Kick-Ass, whereas his linework on splashier corporate comics is a lot looser. This could be the beginning of a new age for “Kick-Ass” that does not pander nor alienate long-time readers. This is a remarkable start to a series that is shockingly fresh despite revolving around a very basic premise. For longtime followers of Romita’s art, what is most noticeable is how the artist improved on his facial expressions. If you're a comic nerd like our protagonist you'll get most of the little references and pop cultural comparisons.

Overall, I loved the introduction to the new Kick-Ass story arc, believing it to be a solid and impactful start. Even Patience herself, despite her obvious struggles as a single mother with few job prospects, is never as sympathetic as she should be.I thought the artist's exaggerated approach to facial features in the Cyclops/Hope training scene successfully conveyed the dysfunction between the two and signalled just how far gone Cyclops is as a result of a life of hardship and heartache. He fills the book with swearing and graphic violence, which is probably enough to get his fans on his side, even though he is portraying comics fans in general in a pretty harsh light.
