About this deal

If you don’t have a copy of Revolver in mono, this version will certainly be useful, but it doesn’t quite have the warmth of the all-analog-mastered version included in September 2009’s The Beatles In Mono vinyl box set. There are exceptions – the horn section on “Got to Get You Into My Life”, the strings on “Eleanor Rigby”. After hearing it, I could never listen to the original mix again, even if Paul’s lead vocals seemed off by a millisecond from the original – not much, just barely enough to notice. On "Taxman"] I can take off the guitar, I can take off the bass, and then I can even separate the snare drum and kick drum as well.

This is The Beatles off the edge of the map, showing the rest of the world that there were plenty of untouched new vistas begging for exploration. Besides, it's not as though the Beatle police are going to come around to your place, and confiscate all your existing copies of Revolver, and force you to accept this new-fangled rendering. Giles Martin Details Beatles' 'Revolver' Deluxe Edition and Remix: In 1966 Sessions, 'You Can Hear Them Unwrapping Their Presents' ".

Chockful of rare and previously unpublished photos, handwritten lyrics, original reel tape-storage boxes, and recording notes as well as 1966 print ads, the book also includes extracts from Voormann’s graphic novel, birth of an icon, REVOLVER. Beatles fans will never agree on what is the band’s finest album, but “Revolver” began to replace “Sgt. What's not forgivable is the unrelenting inner groove distortion on "She Said She Said" on both the remix and the original mono disc. While The Beatles’ musical performances were exceptional as always, in terms of instruments they really hadn’t progressed far from the lead guitar/rhythm guitar/bass/drums configuration of most of their early songs – compared to later albums, the instrumentations are still relatively sparse.

It sounds as though you are in the room with the strings as they are being recorded, and you can’t ask for anything better than that.Overdubs included an additional harmony vocal by Paul, omitted from the released version but now faded up in a mix of Take 7. The release centers around the new mix of the album made possible “with the help of cutting edge de-mixing technology developed by Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films Productions Ltd. after putting on the new stereo mix to find the whole presentation much, much warmer, and far more inviting as an end-to-end listen. As he did on other recent Beatles reissues, George Martin’s son Giles handles production and remixing duties on Revolver. One significant mistake (as others have touched on) is the incorrect speed for the "actual speed" version of "Rain.

Now I’ve also got a hot take on the album – I’m gonna agree with Serene Dominic in the Phoenix New Times on this one and admit that I like the original U. And Your Bird Can Sing" is just a jaw-dropper, and the opening track “Taxman” launches the album into the stratosphere from the get-go. The real improvement is the vocals – the backing vocals were always gorgeous, but they are so full and expansive in this new mix, it is absolutely heavenly. From “Taxman” to “Tomorrow Never Knows,” The Beatles’ REVOLVER has been newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and Sam Okell, and sourced directly from the original four-track master tapes with audio brought forth in stunning clarity with the help of cutting-edge technology developed by the award-winning sound team at Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films Productions Ltd.Here, There And Everywhere” sounds incredibly gorgeous, and the minuet-esque “For No One” feels richer than any version I’ve ever heard. I admit this is a total Beatlefan geek-out dream kind of thing because I think it is so bleepin’ cool!

Lennon’s songs provided the swagger that made the Beatles head and shoulders above their contemporaries. The studio itself became an instrument as George Martin and his engineers, Ken Townsend and 20-year-old newcomer Geoff Emerick, innovated with double-tracking, microphone placement and sound effects. It’s a little hard to tell, but I think Paul is the main offender here, quite uncharacteristic of him really. For any of you who listen on headphones or simply prefer hearing a somewhat more balanced soundstage, it leaves something to be desired.Check out this horns on “Got to Get You Into My Life” – they sound fantastic, much better than the glob of hornish sounding mishmash we got in the original mix.
