If I thought hard, I might come up with a circa 2022 movie that less needed a Dolby Atmos soundtrack than Clerks III… but probably not. And unlike his previous film, Smith doesn’t overload it with “For the hardcore fans material”, either. With more of a push toward human characters and less of a focus on pop culture references and/or dick jokes, I should applaud Smith for this apparent growth as a filmmaker. For whilst in the film Randal’s movie, entitled “Inconvenience”, is supposed to be his story, Clerks 3 actually is HIS story, we’re watching Randal’s story unfold as events occur in the film.
