About this deal

This botanical rum recently won a silver medal at the London Spirits Competition and is from Cabezon Beverage, a Scottish craft spirit company. Garry and Shona Wilson are the people behind Rumburra Scotland Ltd in Fife and their small-batch golden aged rum brand Rumburra. This family business has been in operation since 2019 and their signature rum, Rumburra Orach, is a premium, craft, golden aged rum. It is small batched and handcrafted in Scotland at 42.3% abv. There are sure to be many more Scottish producers set to enter the rum market in the coming years, including Ellon-based brewer BrewDog, which recently revealed plans to launch a rum this year under its spirits arm. Matured and spiced in Glasgow, Banditti Club is made using rum distilled from freshly pressed sugar cane juice on the Island of Madeira. Aged for 12 months in oak casks, Banditti is spiced with a selection of fresh tropical fruit and exotic spices, including pineapple, orange, cacao and allspice.

With warming spice and subtle hints of smokiness, Smoky Rogues is the perfect tipple for discerning rum fans as we draw into the colder months. It has notes of dark chocolate, Christmas cake and spiced orange which combine with smoky tobacco notes, mulled spices and zesty marmalade. A long finish with subtle smokiness, hints of roasted pineapple and earthy spices.” This is a single-cask limited-edition Banditti Club Glasgow Spiced Rum. It is aged and spiced like the rum above, but instead of cutting it down with water, this one has spent another 18 months in a cask previously used for Glasgow 1770 Peated Single Malt. The cask brings a layer of smokiness into the spirit. Smoky Rogues is bottled at a higher ABV of 52.2%. Only 390 delicious bottles were made available. There is a curiosity about rum and a lot of diversity. The category is a lot of fun, so it catches the attention of the younger demographic. Rum seemed the obvious next product for us after all the other spirits we have made and it now allows us to mature our Scotch in our own Rum casks and vice versa – but it needed its own identity”. Currently distilled in Angus before being bottled and labelled by hand by the Ross family.Natural sweetness and warm spice on the nose, Banditti Club opens up to toasted pineapple and orange on the palate with notes of clove and anise that lead to a long spicy finish. This mix of flavours results in a classic “sweet and salty” taste (a version of salted caramel). The 45 is then aged in a bourbon/whisky cask, one that has been used for years in the US bourbon craft and subsequently more years in Scotch whisky distilling. This finish brings together the flavours of Scotland and the USA and in an unfiltered, real rum.

Made at Ogilvy Spirits, the fermentation of the cane molasses (the spirit’s base ingredient) is done at low temperature for four weeks using both rum and champagne yeast, which gives this drink its unusual flavour profile.The festival programme is due to be announced soon and will be supported by spirits experts and educators such as Dave Broom and Peter Holland. Inspired by the early 19th Century Banditti Club who would drink in Glasgow’s famous public houses, Banditti Club Smoky Rogues joins the previous two releases in the Banditti Club Collection - Banditti Club Glasgow Spiced Rum and Banditti Club Port Cask Finish. Like Christmas cake in a bottle, it is made usingrumdistilled from freshly pressed sugar cane juice on the Island of Madeira. The single malt has won a range of awards including Gold at the Scotch Whisky Masters and International Whisky Competition - to name a few!
