Experience the Best Products and the Best Experience Possible Note: If you’re using soft-tip darts, the oche should be 8 feet (244 cm) from the dartboard. This is because soft-tip darts are generally lighter, and thus, require a longer throwing distance. Tips for Accurate Oche Measurement

The reason that the throwline became known as the oche in darts is unclear. There are a number of theories as to how the name came about, though, with one of which being that the name comes from an old Finnish word for “spit”. A dart mat with a raised oche, such as the Unicorn Lightweight Raised Oche and Dart Mat, is the ideal choice if you want a more professional setup. This mat features a built-in raised oche so you can put your foot against a raised toe line, like the professionals do, which lends itself to more consistent play. The oche is marked at 7 ft 9 1⁄4 inches away from the dartboard for steel tip darts when measured along the floor. For soft tip darts, the distance is 8 feet. To this day, an oche is a term used in the UK but unless you are playing a specific tournament, you’re unlikely to come across an actual oche – the raised platform types.Measure the diagonal distance: Using a tape measure or a piece of string, measure a diagonal line from the bullseye to the floor. The correct diagonal distance for steel-tip darts is 9 feet 7 3/8 inches (293 cm), and for soft-tip darts, it’s 9 feet 9 inches (297 cm). Measure the height: First, ensure that the height of your dartboard is correct. The center of the bullseye should be 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) from the floor. Measure the throwing distance: The official throwing distance, or oche, is 7 feet 9.25 inches (237 cm) from the face of the dart board, measured horizontally along the floor. Mark the oche with tape or use a raised oche bar to create a clear throwing line.

According to the World Darts Federation rules, the oche should be precisely 7 feet 9.25 inches (237 centimeters) from the dartboard’s face. The oche’s width is typically 24 inches, providing plenty of space for a player to stand and throw comfortably. Setting Up Your Own Oche Mark the throw line: Where the diagonal line meets the floor, place a small mark or a piece of tape to indicate the throw line’s position. This will be your oche or toe line, from which players will throw their darts.

Sometimes a diagonal distance is measured from the bullseye to the oche as a reference. Rules Of The Oche Use a raised oche: Installing a raised oche, such as a wooden or metal bar, can help players avoid stepping over the line and ensure a consistent throwing position. I’m sure there are some of you that have watched darts before and listened quite perplexed as a commentator mentions the term “oche”. While modern darts tend to use the term throw line or toe line, the oche was the traditional term used to define the throw line in darts. Wild cards are to be used to top up players when you are short and are not to be used when you have players available If you are using a wild card to cover both a singles game and a doubles game, you will need to draw 2 cards and it will count as 2 wild cards
