It’s not only engaging to look through but provides the real key to music appreciation–the chance to listen to great music! Through the Decades: Highlights

The LSO and Sir Simon Rattle mark Beethoven’s 250th anniversary year with performances of Christ on the Mount of Olives and Symphony No 9.

This year (our second with You ARE An ARTist Fine Arts materials) we’re using the Grade 5 Ancient Art and the Orchestra plans because they coordinate perfectly with our history studies. I personally found the book to be a bit boring. Frankly, I never asked, nor wondered, how the orchestra came to be. I'm more interested in what the orchestra is now and the pieces of music that they perform. However, I can appreciate the historical context and also what can be described as the rapid evolution of the orchestra in less than 500 years.The George Benjamin By George! Get them to close their eyes and play a high and a low pitch note. Which pitch was high, which was low? Can they play a note quietly? Can they play a note loudly?
