The DT 990 Edition headphones for use at home and the DT 990 PRO studio headphones: Soundwise, both models are identical as they feature identically designed acoustic transducers. Now that I'm wearing these headphones for 6-8 hours a day I do begin to notice the weight but it is not neccesarely disturbing. As with other headphone models in the Beyerdynamic DT Series, the DT-990 comes with a fully replaceable part system so you can service your investment for years down the line.

The sound signature is of course harsh, if they need an equalizer to listen to music, but they tolerate it well. Although they have advertised 250 Ohms impedance you average smartphone can drive them pretty well to painfully strong sound pressure level. The caveat however is that if you pair them with a simple amplifier you will unleash the beast <1KHz. I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried them on my phone, then thrilled on my audio interface Komplete 2, finally the HA4 "KOMPLETED" the circle of audio pleasure. I compared them directly to Custom One Pros, Marshall Major and K-701 all four driven from the same source - Komplete 2 + HA4. I equalised the volume to the best of my perception and the DT 990s wiped the the floor with the competition. As long as it doesn't have exaggerated cymbals, you may be fine. If you prefer deeper, more towards mid and bass range sound, avoid DT990 at all costs.

For a long time I had T60RP, this is an isodynamic driver, it can play very loudly, respectively, bass and sub-bass are reproduced very well, on a large scale, but all other frequencies seem to sound narrower than bass.

Comfort: 5 stars - Pretty fluffy ear cups. I wear glasses and my deal breaker is that the headphones do not press my ears too hard against the frame of the glasses. I do however fear that during summer the ear cups will be a bit too warm. I dismantled the headphones, the cups inside are the same, with the same number of holes, they close tightly. this is to protect against channel imbalances such as in the DT250/(80 or 250 ohm). DT990 Pro revealed its full glory in this test. Horizontal and vertical space became filled with the joy of good sound. Of course, high frequencies are in front too. DT990 has simply too much of it. But at least it didn't hurt my ears. Bought for a friend for their new studio. Tested them and the sound is much better than I anticipated. Solid and clean bass, with good spacing/imaging and clear highs. My friend is in love with them and has escalated their ability to produce music. For this price rage, I couldn't recommend them more. I should be able to hear a huge difference. There are fundamentally two differences between the models. Firstly, the Edition models have asofter headband for enjoying music at home whereas the PRO headset has a slightly firmer fit. Secondly, the Edition models come equipped with a straight cable whereas the PRO models come with a coiled cable. The ear pads feel velvety and plush. We did not experience any sweating issues as we tested the headphones during the colder months; however, you may experience heating issues in summers. The headband that connects both the ear cups is mostly spring steel and the ear cups are made of plastic. Nevertheless, the plastic is sturdy and premium-quality. The bass is powerful yet properly balanced. It is not too overpowering. The treble is outstanding. The highs and lows are precise and clear.

However, if you regularly have lengthy listening sessions to your music, you will appreciate the work Beyerdynamic has put into their build: (replaceable) grey velour ear pads epitomise comfort, fitting snugly around your ears, while gently clasping your head with the right amount of snugness. The low end was ok in most cases. It didn't have impact, weight or transient as DT770 but it is there. This is what I thought before I moved to the other music genres.I also remember the old Shure 840, I sold them because of the weight) Although they were closed, they were very cool.
