QLED, on the other hand, is a proprietary technology developed by Samsung. QLED uses a filter of quantum dots to enhance color and contrast and make do with several dimming zones to vary brightness across the screen – rather than being able to do so with each pixel individually. QLED TVs are also a lot brighter than OLEDs (thousands of nits versus hundreds) though they can struggle to show both light and dark images as effectively at the same time as a result.

LG UR91: Available in five sizes and powered by the sixth-gen α5 AI Processor 4K, the UR91 supports 4K Upscaling, HDR10 and HLG, AI Sound Pro and nine picture modes, but its 50Hz refresh rate means it’s not the best choice for next-gen gamers.However, we are not really convinced by the TV. Although the color reproduction is also on a high level for gaming content, the moderate contrast and the moderate peak brightness are not enough for us to give a real recommendation for a well-rounded gaming experience. True cinema atmosphere is – unsurprisingly – a foreign word for the 2.0 sound system with 20 watts of output. LG’s model numbers may look daunting at first glance, but they’re actually relatively easy to decipher once you know what each of the component parts refers to. C: The first letter of an OLED’s model number indicates the series to which the TV belongs. “Z” series OLEDs are the company’s most expensive, while the “A” series are entry-level options, though there’s no A series being released in the UK in 2023. There’s often talk of ‘burn in’ images on OLED screens, but much of this is anecdotal, and you’d probably need to be working the set very hard for this to become a problem. All OLED panels are manufactured by LG Display, so you have LG to thank even if you’ve got a Sony OLED in your home.

Admittedly, the preferred HDR format is only really a concern at the higher end of the price range, but those spending big should think carefully about which services they’re likely to want HDR content on. LG B3: The B3 is powered by LG’s less advanced α7 Gen6 AI Processor 4K and misses out on the additional brightness that comes with the evo panels used by the C3 and G3. However, it’s a more affordable entry point into the company’s OLED range and still has four HDMI 2.1 ports, a 120Hz refresh rate panel and support for Dolby Atmos. If you don’t mind settling for an older version of the webOS operating system, and less impressive picture and audio performance, you can save yourself a fair amount of cash by opting for an older LG TV. QNED: Next comes the panel type, which in this case is a Quantum NanoCell Emitting Diode (QNED) panel. OLEDs typically make up a significant proportion of LG’s TV lineup and that remains the case in 2023. There’s no A series being released in the UK in 2023, but otherwise, the lineup looks very similar to last year.HDR: Ultra HD TVs are compatible with high dynamic range formats including HDR 10 for improved colour and more detail in the shadows.

The South Korean firm sells a huge range of televisions, but trying to tell them apart and work out the differences between them based on their model numbers is not a straightforward task. These additional numbers and letters are the least important. They indicate the sales region, the type of broadcast tuner and the type of stand the TV uses. Although it's technically what Samsung is calling QD-OLED. Because in this display there's actually a whole new type of OLED technology – one that combines the famous self-emissive properties of OLED with the brightness and color range potential of QLED. Sit closer: Experience the same detailed picture when closer to the screen – with eight million pixels, the picture won’t break up.
Although there has also been a significant improvement in color balance, we would have wished for a bit more residual precision, especially for blue. The color fidelity tolerance has also shown considerable progress.

At least the budget model offers an ALLM Feature to improve the delay during controller inputs and will make friends of the cloud gaming front happy. The poor luminance of about 300 nits SI unit of luminance: 1 nit = 1 cd/m 2– The best way of measuring and comparing a TVs brightness isn’t really enough to bring bright details to the panel with final consequence and to give the colorization an extra helping hand at this point. If the content gets too dark, there is a risk that the picture loses details. Despite the comparatively low price rating, you get a well-made 4K TV that delivers an amazingly great picture in terms of color reproduction and can also be used well for extended group evenings. However, the picture quality of this model is limited by its comparatively low contrast.
You won’t find any gaming features on the UQ81 that would allow you to play next-gen titles. LG would have to provide an HDMI 2.1 interface and 120 hertz for that. But this is simply not part of the specifications. You will also have to do without three-dimensional surround sound and sometimes show some patience when navigating through webOS 22. This reflects the series the TV belongs to. The higher the number, the more advanced (and expensive) the TV is. LG QNED86 (2022): Another 2022 model that’s yet to see a 2023 update, the QNED86 features a Quantum Dot Nancocell panel with Mini LEDs and is powered by the same Alpha 7 chip as the QNED91 but uses a less advanced dimming technology: Precision Dimming rather than Precision Dimming Pro.
