About this deal

The experience of navigating the operating system is not the most intuitive or smooth, but it gets the job done. Emulator is Snes9x 2005 v1.36 (Git commit b94a804). For most firmware versions before 1.71, SNES games often appear to run very slowly on first launch; you can learn more about this issue and how to correct it here. Genesis/Mega Drive Updated the CFW FAQ with some more details on the multicore experiment. Fixed a typo (Cave Story, not Cave Store - thanks neddunn!). I've heard ONE person say the two folders link didn't work for them, but YMMV - I think they were on the original firmware (though that's not supposed to matter)." So is the "Data Frog" any good? Only you can answer that question for yourself. There are certainly more powerful devices out there, more fully featured devices, devices with better hardware, etc. - but almost all of those devices cost a lot more than the SF2000. At the end of the day, you have to look at the features offered at the given price-point, and only then can you decide if you're interested in the device or not. Is there any custom firmware?

The SF2000 suffers from the same graphic glitches of many budget devices. A phenomena called “screen tearing”, where the device has trouble processing the graphics fast enough for the screen to display them properly. Lynx (.lnx); Game Gear (.gg); Turbo Graphx (.pce); Atari 2600 (.bin); Wonderswan (.wsc). Zipped and unzipped arcade files such as Lady Bug and Joust did not play. This is a bugfix release - the bug with SNES save states introduced in 1.7 was fixed, so this firmware appears to be stable again. Analysis shows no other significant changes from 1.7 My main complaint is that they have way too many games on the device for what it will actually play well. Keeping your expectations to the 8 bit and 16 bit generations on the SF2000 will leave you surprisingly satisfied on an ultra budget device. ConclusionsSome "unknown" files from the Resources folder identified with taizou's help (thanks!); moved them to the Sounds and Rom Lists sections with details. Only two files left! Added my new Save State Tool. Added documentation to the Emulators section about the save state files and their format. Also added a note specifically to the Arcade section about the .skp files (which are secretly just save state files with a different extension). Added a "Favourites and History" section detailing the format of the Favorites.bin and History.bin files. The SNES first-launch speed bug was fixed, however there is a new critical bug in SNES save-states - they're not created correctly, and attempting to load one created with this firmware version hangs the device. DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE VERSION!

The last four bytes are a little-endian Uint32 storing the offset within the file of where the thumbnail metadata starts (i.e., the offset of the first byte of width data) Number of different versions of Street Fighter 2: 60+ 😵‍💫 [Von Millhausen: I think this stat is only half a joke!] You can change the default button mappings for each emulator (newer firmwares have this feature built-in, but the built-in implementation is buggy) For previous updates, see this post. Some of the tools listed in this post have not been verified to work fully with the new updates, but on the other hand performance is improved according to reports.Disable music from menus, and other cool utilities (from proszty) : https://tzubertowski.github.io/sf2000-utilities/ Open your audio file; there's a hard-coded limit of 1 minute 30 seconds on the maximum length of the audio you can use, so if your audio file is longer than that, you'll need to trim it to be 1 minute 30 seconds or shorter (longer audio will glitch) Google drive link - for sanity's sake: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tBqifKQG9DAR_xWnWXZXLPnJp0IDcgrI/view?usp=share_link Added an FAQ. Added a section about the bootloader bug, along with steps for installing bnister's patch. Added a link to ignatzdraconis's Gitlab Repo. Some folks have updated their Discord handles to Discord's new naming convention, and those handles have been updated throughout.

Updated resource tables for the new 1.5 firmware (no changes); added a table with details about known firmware versions. Added a "Tools & Links" section. Due to the different nature of arcade emulation compared to any of the other systems the SF2000 supports, the ROM layout for the arcade section is different as well. Inside the /ARCADE folder in the root of the microSD card you'll find a bin subfolder, and a bunch of .zfb files. The bin folder contains .zip files with an enforced 8.3 file naming scheme, and they contain the actual ROM data for the FBA emulator. The .zfb files are used to populate the arcade game list when you go into the arcade section on the SF2000's menu, and their file structure is as follows:Recent versions of Tadpole by .ericgoldstein and jasongrieves_02643 have support for changing the shortcuts if you're looking for an automated way to do things. There's also a separate web-based tool from Zerter#4954 which lets you edit these icons, you can find it here. This is a stripped-down, bare-bones version of the Datafrog SF2000 OS without any ROMS included. This version is v1.71, dated October 13th 2023. Full .IMG with 16gb partition FFFFFF: Hexadecimal colour (RGB) for the general game-list texts, and the x/yyy game count in the top-right corner of each game-list First firmware with an official version number. Fixed the SNES/Genesis swapped button mappings, and now sets Player 2 controls to be identical to Player 1 (no way to set independently). There's some evidence of undocumented emulation improvements; some GBA homebrew that was non-functional in previous firmwares now loads correctly, and some GBA titles see marginally improved performance Updated FAQ about custom firmware with latest details (Retroarch input driver in basic functional state)
